Basically this is just a running log of what I have to do to get/keep my computer and the computers I use up to date with various programs I use for my research. During grad school I decided that using IDL was great but cost too much to keep buying and meant I was limited in my abilities to do things on my own (e.g. adding FORTRAN code to an IDL environment). Python with Numpy and Scipy provide a very solid basis on which to do large scale analysis. Matplotlib provides a great way for making plots of your data although it lacks in that it has no 3D support.
